Elder
The Hansfords moved to Shawnee in 1990 when Jim and Conchita were employed as professors in the Division of Music at Oklahoma Baptist University where Jim served as director of bands and orchestra and taught music education courses.  They joined First Baptist Church where they have been very active in the music ministry and Sunday School for 33 years.  Jim, who was ordained a deacon in 1972 at FBC, Denton, served actively in four churches until being elected an elder at First Baptist Shawnee in 2021.  He directs the Sanctuary Choir at Heritage and over the past 45 years has served as interim and supply music minister at numerous churches across Oklahoma.  “It has been a blessing serving as an elder during the process of the union/merger of First Baptist and Heritage.  Watching the Lord bring our two churches together to continue sharing the great beacon of hope to a lost world here at 10th and Union is nothing short of a miracle,” Hansford said.  Jim and Conchita retired as music professors at OBU after a combined total of nearly 60 years of service.  They are the parents of two daughters, Candace Francis (Houston) and Tamara Hamilton (Lubbock) and 3 grandchildren.  They are currently caring for their daughter Tamara who lives with them.
